My Role as PPS - Update

It has been a privilege to serve as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister since Labour transitioned from opposition to Government in 2024. However, due to changing personal circumstances, I have made the difficult decision to step down from this role.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked closely with the Deputy Prime Minister and colleagues at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. I am extremely proud of this Government’s ambitious and bold plans to build 1.5 million new homes and the work that has already taken place to pass the landmark Employment Rights Bill through the House of Commons. Housing is the issue I receive the majority of my casework on and I welcome the Government’s Renters’ Rights Bill which will make a significant positive impact to households in Stockport and across the country.

Given the state of the economy and public services inherited from the chaos and mismanagement of the former Government, I have no doubt that this Labour Government will continue to deliver for the people of Britain. I will continue to play a significant role supporting this Government and our policies from the backbenches.

It is the greatest source of pride and honour for me to have been re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Stockport - the Deputy Prime Minister’s hometown. I remember clearly the support and guidance she kindly gave me as a young activist in Stockport; my ongoing support for her is unwavering.

I want to thank my fellow PPS’s, Harpreet Uppal MP and Mark Ferguson MP, whose support has been vital, together with recognising the work and commitment of all Ministers, civil servants and special advisors as this Labour Government sets out to deliver the essential change our country needs.
