Summer Support
If you live in Stockport, there is plenty of support available to help with the cost of living this summer. Stockport council’s cost-of-living hub is a useful online support service that brings together all the support options in one place.
Here are some other ways you can get help:
Resident Advice and Support Team: This team is here to guide you through the different ways to get support with the cost of living. Whether you need help with benefit advice or applying for national schemes, they’re ready to assist with any worries related to the current economic situation. You can call them at 0161 474 2140, Monday to Friday, from 9:30am to 4pm.
Free family events and activities: Looking for things to do this summer? Stockport Council has a schedule of free events and activities for families and children across the area: Stockport Council Events.
Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme: This popular programme is back for the summer holidays! If your family receives income-based free school meals, your children (from reception up to year 11) can join funded holiday clubs across Stockport, with a free nutritious lunch included. Eligible families will get a voucher code by email on 1 July 2025 to book their spots. Learn more here.
Family Support Vouchers: Eligible families will receive £75 per child this summer through vouchers sent by email or letter from 14 July 2025. If your family gets income-based free school meals or local council tax support, you’ll be included. Read more here.
Stockport Library Service: Libraries are a great free resource, and if you might be struggling with the cost of living, library staff can connect you with Citizens Advice for appointments. Plus, there are lots of community events happening- more details can be found on the council events calendar.
Mental Health Support: If you’re finding things tough this summer, there is mental health support available in Stockport. A great starting point is the Healthy Stockport website, which brings together local services available to help.
Merseyway Pop-Up Uniform Shop: This shop will be back this summer, accepting donations from Monday 21 July to Sunday 3 August. The shop itself will be open from Friday 8 August to Friday 15 August.
One Stockport Family Hub: Need information or support for your family? The Family Hub brings together local services into one easy-to-access place. Full details on Family Hubs and what help is available can be found here.
