Extra Energy Bill Support for Thousands in Stockport
The Labour Government has announced plans to extend vital support for families struggling with rising energy costs. This will help thousands of households in Stockport and across the North West to manage their bills this winter.
Plans to expand the Warm Home Discount, a scheme designed to ease the burden of high energy prices, will give eligible households £150 off their energy bills this winter. The expansion will bring a total of nearly 2.7 million households into the scheme across the country – pushing the total number of households that would receive the discount next winter up to an estimated 6.1 million.
Under the new proposals, an additional 280,000 families in the North West will be eligible to receive the discount, bringing the total estimate of Warm Homes Discount recipients in our region up to 780,000.
I know many families across Stockport are still struggling with the cost of living. Providing security and peace of mind for working people is key to this Government’s Plan for Change and extending this £150 energy bills support to millions more families will make a real difference - putting money back in the pockets of working people.
We are determined to secure our energy system, protect it from the volatility of fossil fuel markets, and give working people the security they deserve. This additional support is part of Labour’s broader mission to transform Britain into a clean energy superpower, providing long-term energy security and driving down bills for good.
