£2.35 Million Investment in Our Colleges
Stockport is set to benefit from a major investment in our local further education colleges, with a funding boost of £2,354,140. This is part of Labour’s bold £302 million investment in FE Colleges across England as part of the Plan for Change, aimed at rebuilding our economy and breaking down barriers to opportunity.
After years of decline under the Conservatives, our FE colleges have been left with crumbling buildings and outdated facilities. I have heard from students, parents, and teachers across Stockport about the urgent need to address this and now, with Labour in Government, we’re delivering real change and making sure that the next generation is taught in buildings that are fit for purpose.
Whether it’s repairing leaky roofs, replacing broken windows, or upgrading classrooms, colleges across Stockport will now have the freedom to use this funding where it’s most needed. They can now focus on what really matters: providing young people and adult learners with the skills they need to thrive.
This investment will make sure our colleges are places where people are inspired to learn, where they feel safe and supported, and where they can build the foundations for successful careers. Whether it’s through apprenticeships, vocational training, or adult education, our FE colleges are at the heart of Stockport’s economic future.
This announcement also comes alongside an additional £20 million funding boost which will be spent across colleges in Greater Manchester and Leeds, as well as £100 million for ten new Technical Excellence Colleges to train the next generation of construction workers. This will be key to delivering Labour’s target to build 1.5 million new homes over the next five years.
The Labour government has consistently put skills at the front of its agenda, including by bringing English and Maths requirements in line with other qualifications to unlock up to 10,000 more apprenticeships for young people. This is what delivering for Stockport looks like- investing in skills and backing our young people.
